27 Seventeen Ministries

To offer real hope to those in prison and after they are released by showing them the love, redemption and transformation Christ has for them.

About Us

In 2009 Terry and Suzanne McDonald received the call of God to go into the prisons bringing the good news of Jesus to those who are incarcerated. We believe that no one is too far gone and everyone needs to hear and experience the love of Jesus Christ.  We know without this hope, healing, and restoration, many will re-offend and end up back in prison, creating more hurt and pain. The only way we will see change is to go to them with the hope that can change, heal, and restore lives. Leading the lost to Christ, but not just stopping there, sharpening them, challenging them, equipping them with the Holy Word of God. 27seventeen Ministries joins TDCJ in an effort to continue to lower the recidivism rate.  Much progress has been made in the last decade, but there is much more work to be done. Our need for volunteers with the heart of Jesus is evident.  Our volunteers are the backbone of this ministry. We need people who have a heart and a willingness to share the love of Christ with those who are lost and hurting. We would love to have you partner with us as we advance God’s Kingdom behind the fences.  We cannot reach these men without our volunteers.  Everyone needs encouragement!  To learn more about volunteering contact us at . . .

We show them how to love like Jesus does..

Through Bible study, prayer, church and encouragement. We teach that the Holy Spirit is teaching and communicating with us and equipping each of us to go out into the world and boldly proclaim this message to others.

What we Do

Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

The first truth about sharpening iron: a knife cannot sharpen itself. Nor can something weaker than iron, sharpen iron.  Proverbs 27:17 uses a practical truth about sharpening iron, to teach a spiritual truth about our relationships with others: We need each other…We’ve all had the experience of friends who inspire us to be better than we are, and friends who don’t. A godly Christian friend can sharpen us in areas where they are strong.   Sharpening is always done for a purpose, to make the blade more effective and efficient.  Just like us, we are to be sharpened, and to sharpen others, in order to advance the Kingdom of God.  Growing as a Christian is important. Choosing friends who will sharpen us is one practical way we can grow. God designed us to need each other for fellowship, and for advancing His kingdom here on earth. 27seventeen Ministries is currently engaged in the evangelization and discipleship of men in prison at the Hughes Unit in Gatesville, Texas and the Boyd Unit in Teague, Texas through our work in the Faith Based Dorms, Chapel Classes, Worship Services, Fields ministers, Special Events and Officer Appreciation.
